 The Nigerian music industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Afrobeats singer Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

The 22-year-old artiste was reported dead on Sunday, January 18, 2026, after a social media post by journalist Temilola Sobola announced the sad development.

“Singer Destiny Boy has passed away. May his soul Rest In Peace 🕊️,” Sobola wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the cause of Destiny Boy’s death remain unclear, with neither his family nor management issuing an official statement.

Destiny Boy rose to fame at a young age with his unique street-pop and Fuji-inspired sound. He gained widespread attention in 2019 after a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If” went viral, earning him a growing fan base.
