Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered an unusual drug-smuggling attempt involving a 35-year-old woman, Rabi Muhammad, who allegedly concealed tramadol capsules inside a fake pregnancy bump while trying to cross the border.

The suspect, described as a Kano-based businesswoman, was intercepted by NDLEA officers at the departure point of the Seme Border in Lagos on Monday, February 16, 2026, while attempting to travel to Cotonou in the Benin Republic.

The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, February 22.

According to him, a thorough body search exposed the deception, revealing that the suspect’s apparent pregnancy was staged using a pink-coloured calabash strapped to her stomach.

The improvised bump was found to contain 3,200 capsules of tramadol, which she allegedly intended to smuggle into Cotonou for sale.
