US Vice President JD Vance has revealed that his wife, Usha Vance, never measured his worth by his professional achievements or political ambitions, but instead wanted him to become a “good man.”
Vance made the remarks in a preview of a Fox News interview scheduled to air on Saturday, August 8, 2026, while discussing his marriage, fatherhood and journey back to Christianity.
According to the Vice President, Usha was never particularly concerned about whether he became highly successful in business, wrote a bestselling book or eventually rose to the position of vice president.
“My wife didn’t care whether I was super successful, whether I became the vice president or a best-selling author or successful in business,” Vance said.
He added that what mattered most to her was his character.
“She just wanted me to be a good man,” he said.
Vance said her expectation also influenced his own desire to become a better husband and father.
“And I wanted to be a good husband and a good father,” he added.
The Vice President linked this desire to his return to Christianity, saying his search for a deeper sense of purpose eventually led him back to the faith.
“And I felt like Christianity answered that yearning better than anything else that I saw in the world,” Vance said.
He, however, stressed that his return to Christianity was gradual rather than an immediate decision.
“And that really is what led me back, but it was a slow, slow process,” he said.
Usha Vance has previously spoken about her husband’s religious journey and how it has influenced their relationship.
In an interview with CBS reporter Robert Costa, Usha, who was raised in a Hindu household, said she had not experienced the same need to search for another faith.
“I grew up in a Hindu household that was a very stable household,” she said. “I have not felt the same need to seek something different that he has.”
She explained that their differing religious experiences are something they navigate together as a married couple.
