Nollywood actress Adebimpe Oyebade Adedimeji, popularly known as Mo Bimpe, has responded to criticism surrounding a viral video of her interacting with fellow actor Jide Awobona.
The video, recorded at the premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story in Lagos, showed Mo Bimpe having a conversation with Awobona while her husband, actor Lateef Adedimeji, sat nearby.
The brief interaction sparked reactions on social media, with some users questioning the closeness between the two actors and suggesting that Lateef appeared uncomfortable with the situation. Others, however, pointed out that Jide Awobona is a family friend of the couple and described the reactions as an overinterpretation of an ordinary interaction.
Reacting to the controversy, Mo Bimpe took to her Instagram Story to criticise those who turned the one-minute clip into a subject of public scrutiny.
She explained that her interaction with Awobona was simply a conversation between friends and should not be interpreted as a threat to her marriage.
According to the actress, marriages are built differently, noting that hers is founded on trust, friendship, respect and confidence rather than fear, insecurity or constant monitoring.
She said the reaction to the video says more about the kind of relationships some people are accustomed to than it does about her own marriage.
Mo Bimpe further maintained that not every marriage is toxic and that healthy marriages still exist.
She also described her husband as a secure man who understands her friendships and relationships with colleagues in the entertainment industry.
The actress stressed that a brief conversation with a family friend should not be enough to threaten a marriage or become a matter of public concern.
Mo Bimpe and Lateef Adedimeji got married in December 2021 and have remained one of the popular couples in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
The actress concluded her response by urging critics to allow couples to manage their relationships according to their own understanding and ended her message with “Love and light.”
