Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for attending the funeral service of the late Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, held in Jos on Monday.
In a statement issued after the event, Governor Mutfwang described the President’s visit as a profound gesture of respect and solidarity with the people of Plateau State, noting that his presence, despite a demanding national schedule, underscores his commitment to the values of love, unity, and faith that the late Mama Lydia embodied.
“The President’s presence on the Plateau speaks volumes about his respect for our people and his dedication to promoting unity across Nigeria,” the Governor said.
Governor Mutfwang also commended President Tinubu’s message at the funeral, in which he urged Nigerians to embrace religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence. He praised the President’s personal testimony of interfaith harmony within his own family as a powerful reminder that Nigeria’s diversity is a divine strength rather than a weakness.
“As Governor, I share the President’s belief that our collective progress as a nation depends on how well we live together in understanding and mutual respect,” Mutfwang stated.
He extended heartfelt gratitude, on behalf of the government and people of Plateau State, to the President and the First Lady for standing with the Yilwatda family during their time of grief, adding that the visit reaffirms Plateau’s enduring reputation as a symbol of unity and hospitality in Nigeria.
Governor Mutfwang further disclosed that he used the opportunity to brief President Tinubu on key developmental projects currently underway in Plateau State, including interventions in agriculture, infrastructure, and urban renewal, such as the Tin City Metro Buses and ongoing efforts to revive the state’s economy. He noted that these initiatives align closely with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous state, the Governor said: “As a people, we stand firm in our resolve to promote peace, unity, and national progress. Together, we shall continue to build a Plateau and a Nigeria where every citizen can live, worship, and thrive without fear or division.”
