
The
Minister for Women Affairs Mrs Pauline Tallen has said, the Federal
government condemned in its totality the issue of girl child education
and infant mortality which is ravaging the country.
Mrs
Tallen in an interactive session with the correspondent Chapel on
Sunday at Atiku Abubakar close Rayfield, Jos, lauded the ministries
collaborating in tackling the plight of women in Nigeria.
The
Minister explained that her ministry and other ministries are carrying
out advocacy on infant mortality, empowerment of women, and political
participation of women is to reduce poverty and discouragement of early
marriage amongst girl child education in the world.
Mrs
Pauline noted that these are things women display as other African
countries have done, development will progress and we will be proud that
we had a successful mission education is power.
She
said, “communication is key and power, we have embark on advocacy on
the girl child education, we are still within the 16 days activism
against gender based violence and rape”.
According to
her, “the program kicked off on the 25th of November 2019 and it will be
ending next tomorrow 10th November 2019 and it will not end at that,
the UN has given 16 days for active participation and advocacy so that
the world will know that we are say,” No to Rape, Domestic Violence, and
any form of violence against women and children in Nigeria “.
Mrs
Pauline Taller maintained that “this will continue until we have a
health and peaceful society and that’s why since on the 25th, we have
been on Orange because orange is the colour that makes us stand to say
NO and we are appealing to all of you Publishers, Journalists to help us
drum this message so that we can have a health, stable and peaceful
society were the dignity of womanhood and that of her children are
protected”.
She described that all men are born of a
woman, and we all either have Mothers, wife’s, Sisters or Daughters and
if we respect the woman.
Tallen stressed that, ” we are
building a healthy society because a woman or the girl child is
Tomorrows mother and if she is well educated, she will ensure her
children are educated, the family is well catered for health wise, so
educating the girl child has a multiplier effect likewise empowering the
girl child”.
The Minister added that; so, if we want
the 17 SDG goals to really reach its desired mission, the woman has to
be in the center of everything.
