Morocco has made history by becoming the first Arab nation to win the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, defeating Argentina 2–0 in the final held in Santiago on Sunday.
The North African side took an early lead in the 12th minute through Yassir Zabiri, who curled in a brilliant free kick to open the scoring. Zabiri struck again 17 minutes later with a close-range finish, sealing Morocco’s victory before halftime.
The win marks a monumental achievement for African football, as Morocco joins the list of countries to have lifted the prestigious youth title.
For Argentina, the most successful team in the tournament’s history with six titles, the loss was their second in a final — the first coming against Brazil in 1983.
