Mikang APC Assembly Primaries Marred by Alleged Irregularities, Stakeholders Demands Rerun

The All Progressives Congress State House of Assembly primaries in parts of Plateau State have come under controversy following allegations of irregularities and disruption of the electoral process in most constituencies.

The APC House of Assembly primary in Mikang Local Government Area has particularly become a subject of dispute as the election reportedly took place only in just one ward where voters turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise, while residents and party members in other wards allegedly waited without the arrival of election committee officials and voting materials.

The Plateau State APC Legal Adviser, Nanyil Terkuk, has called for a rerun of the primaries in affected areas, particularly Lalin Ward in Mikang Local Government Area.

Barrister Terkuk made the call while speaking with journalists on Wednesday at the Lalin Ward polling unit during the ongoing APC primaries for State House of Assembly candidates.

According to him, electoral officials in some areas allegedly failed to count voters on the queue before the process was disrupted.

He further alleged that a serving commissioner hijacked election materials and took them to an unknown destination, a development he said prevented the conduct of primaries in several wards across Mikang Constituency.

The APC legal adviser appealed to the party’s House of Assembly Electoral Committee to organize fresh elections in all affected areas to ensure fairness and compliance with democratic principles.

He also urged aspirants and their supporters to remain peaceful and seek redress through lawful and constitutional means instead of taking the law into their hands.

Similarly, the Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Rural Development, Dio Lamur, also called for a rerun in the affected wards to guarantee a credible outcome.

Lamur, who spoke with journalists in Lalin Ward where the exercise was reportedly disrupted by electoral hitches, expressed confidence in the popularity of the incumbent member representing Mikang Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Naanlong Daniel Gapyil.

“Even if elections are conducted 100 times, Rt. Hon. Daniel Na’anlong will still emerge victorious,” he stated.

The APC primaries across Plateau State are part of the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
