
Search for Common Ground (SFCG) an international, a non-profit organization operating in 36 countries with the mission of promoting the resolution of conflicts, kicked off its 5months long initiative “Media For Peace In Plateau” M4P, a project which is aimed at advancing a credible and peaceful media sector in Plateau state.

The launch which was held today Tuesday 18th February at the Jos Business School, had top media practitioners, representation from the ministry of information, religious leaders, journalist, security, local government information officers, women leader, media students from tertiary institutions as well as peace practitioners were all in attendance.

The National Head Of Programs SFCG, Mr Tok Gang, said Media For Peace Project aims to strengthen the capacity of traditional and new media stakeholders to report, accurate, reliable and conflict sensitive information across plateau state.
He Went on giving an overview saying the project will empower stakeholders to realize thier potentials as change makers and peace builders, providing hands on opportunities for creative reporting and media content development. Central to this approach will be to engage young and emerging media professionals to ensure youths are engaged as partners for peace and have opportunities to build their skills through mentorship and learning by-doing approaches.

Sher Ali Nawaz, Country Director of SFCG said that middle belt Nigeria was losing 12 billion annually because of insecurity as busnesses cannot effectively thrive because of conflict.He said the Media for Peace initiative is aimed at using media as a tool for conflict transformation as the capacity of local media outlets will be built to enhance their skills to promote peace.
The event was rounded off will a panel discussion theme media and citizens, role in countering dangerous speech. The Panelist included; CAN Diretor of Peace Building, Jenifer Yarima (NAWATCH), Salis Abdulsalam (DWCF), Aisha Ishaq and Godwin Okoko (Dir of Program Plateau Peace Building Agency).
