Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mbah announced his defection in a televised broadcast on Tuesday, describing the decision as one made after deep reflection and guided by the need to secure the state’s future.
“Today, after a long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” he said.
The governor, who was elected on the PDP platform, said his political realignment marks “a break from the past” and a new phase in Enugu’s political direction.
“This concerns our values, how we organize ourselves politically, and how we secure the future of our project and our people,” Mbah stated.
He added that leadership sometimes requires difficult choices in pursuit of higher goals.
“Leadership sometimes demands painful decisions in the service of higher principles and goals. And there comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny,” he said.
