Retired Naval Commodore Isaac Mashingil Mankilik has announced his withdrawal from the Plateau Central Senatorial primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to promote unity, peace and stability within the party ahead of the general elections.
In an official statement released on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Bokkos, Plateau State, Mankilik expressed gratitude to his supporters and party stakeholders while reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and the people of Plateau Central Senatorial District.
He noted that his political journey was anchored on the “Security First” mantra, which he said was driven by a commitment to safeguarding lives, strengthening democracy and ensuring effective representation for his constituents.
According to him, while his ambition was rooted in service, true leadership sometimes requires stepping aside for the greater good of collective harmony.
“As a retired Naval Commodore who has spent his lifetime in service to our nation, my resolve to fight for the collective good has never wavered,” he stated.
Mankilik, a founding member of the APC in Plateau State, said he took the decision after consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and supporters across Plateau Central, aimed at reducing political tension and strengthening cohesion within the party.
“To defuse rising political apprehensions, reduce volatility, and foster absolute cohesion within our party ahead of the general elections, I have made the strategic decision to step down from the Plateau Central Senatorial primary race, effective today, Monday, May 18, 2026, at 2:45 PM,” he declared.
He further emphasized that leadership goes beyond holding office, stressing that protecting peace and unity remains a core responsibility of any aspirant.
Mankilik expressed appreciation to his supporters, including members of his campaign structure known as the “Click Mankilik” team, describing their commitment as the backbone of his political movement.
He urged his supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to the success of the APC in all upcoming elections.
“This is not the end of our mission, but a transition to a broader role in ensuring our party’s success,” he added.
He concluded by reaffirming his dedication to the development of Plateau Central, Plateau State, and Nigeria at large.
