A middle-aged man was reportedly rescued on Friday after jumping into the water from the British American Bridge in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 1pm, attracting the attention of residents and commuters in the area, who quickly raised the alarm and mobilised to rescue the man.
An eyewitness, Dalyop Gyang, who said he was passing through the area when the incident occurred, described the rescue operation.
“He was eventually rescued after several people raised the alarm,” Gyang said.
According to him, the man walked towards the bridge at about 1pm before jumping into the water.
“People around the bridge worked together to get the man out of the water, and the rescue operation was carried out quickly,” he added.
Gyang said the man appeared to have sustained injuries during the incident and required immediate medical attention.
The rescued man was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to the correspondent.
Another eyewitness, Mercy John, said security personnel later arrived at the scene.
“A few police officers arrived, but I’m not sure what they were going to do,” she said.
As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances that led to the man’s action remained unclear.
The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, was not immediately available for comment.
However, sources at the command’s headquarters in Jos said an investigation had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
