A man identified as Chinedu Anamelechi has allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend’s sister, Ezinne Ariwodo, in Umuanga Amakama community, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to reports, the suspect, said to be a local security operative, also attacked his girlfriend and a young man during the incident before fleeing the scene.
It was gathered that the girlfriend sustained stab injuries, while the other victim was shot. Both injured persons were rushed to a medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Command, Maureen Chinaka, said officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress report.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the command moved to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the deceased with gunshot wounds,” she said.
She added that the injured victims were rescued and taken to the hospital, while the deceased was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
According to the police, the victim’s remains have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy and preservation, while relevant exhibits were recovered from the scene.
Chinaka further disclosed that normalcy has been restored in the area, urging residents to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
She assured that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
