Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been named Udinese’s Player of the Season following a highly impressive campaign with the Serie A club.
The Nigerian shot-stopper earned the recognition for his consistent performances for the Italian side, popularly known as the Zebras, across the course of the season.
Okoye, however, did not start the campaign, as he missed the opening two months after being suspended over an alleged match-fixing investigation. Despite the setback, he returned strongly to reclaim his position as Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Following his comeback, the 26-year-old delivered several standout performances, including notable displays against Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan, where he played a key role in helping his side secure valuable results.
Statistically, Okoye kept 10 clean sheets in 29 Serie A appearances this season, further underlining his importance to the team.
In addition to the internal club award, the Nigerian international has also been shortlisted for the Serie A Player of the Month award for May, capping off what has been a remarkable turnaround in form.
