The bye-election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency on Saturday witnessed a low voter turnout across several polling units.

The exercise, taking place in twelve electoral wards of the constituency, was scheduled to commence by 8:30 a.m. However, observations showed that despite the early arrival of electoral officers and voting materials, voters were absent in some polling units at the designated start time.

At Ward 6, Unit 6, no voters were present as of 8:26 a.m., while a similar situation was recorded at Ward 6, Unit 21. In Ward 10, Unit 28 at Old Bodija, the polling unit remained empty as of 9:02 a.m. when correspondents left the area.

Voting eventually commenced at Ward 10, Unit 27, around 9:07 a.m., and at Ward 10, Unit 11, by 9:10 a.m.

Meanwhile, the election was marked by heavy security presence, with personnel of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and soldiers deployed across strategic areas, including Apete, Ijokodo, and Adamasingba.
