Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi, has named his Champions League
final header against Manchester United in 2009 as the best goal of his
entire career.
Messi, speaking with Sport, was tasked with picking the very best
from dozens of outstanding goals during his career with Barcelona and
Argentina.
His catalogue of brilliant strikes, includes remarkable solo goals
against Getafe in 2007, Real Madrid in 2011 and Athletic Bilbao in 2015
to name just three.
But Messi feels a headed effort against Manchester United in the
Champions League final in 2009, is the best of his entire career,
because of the goal’s importance.
“I don’t look at goals for their beauty, but their importance.
“The best goal of my career was the header in the Champions League final, for what that goal and that game meant.
“I don’t have special goals marked out that I’d like to score because for me – the special goals are the important ones,” he said.
