Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate a viral video allegedly showing members of an Islamic volunteer group making threats against Christians in Jos, Plateau State, and Enugu State.
Olayinka raised the alarm in a post on X on Monday, October 26, 2026, calling on the security agencies to establish the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the footage.
The video reportedly shows a young man leading a group identified in online reports as members of the First Aid Group (F.A.G.) of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) during a drill.
According to a translation of the Hausa chant shared by Olayinka, the individual allegedly called for an AK-47 rifle and spoke about travelling to Enugu on a Sunday to attack Christians during church services before proceeding to Jos to kill more people.
The alleged statements have raised concerns about possible incitement to religious violence, prompting calls for security agencies to identify those involved and take appropriate action if the allegations are substantiated.
However, the identities of the individuals in the footage, the location and date of the recording, and whether those involved are officially affiliated with JIBWIS have not been independently verified. The video’s context and the accuracy of the translation also require confirmation.
The incident has generated reactions on social media, with several Nigerians calling for an investigation and urging religious organisations to condemn any threats against people on the basis of their faith.
Others have stressed the need to establish the facts before attributing the alleged statements to an entire religious organisation or community.
As of the time of filing this report, no official response from the DSS, the Nigeria Police Force or JIBWIS regarding the specific video was included in the reports reviewed.
The calls for an investigation come amid renewed concerns about religious tolerance and security in Nigeria, with calls for authorities to ensure that any credible threats against citizens are addressed promptly and in accordance with the law.
