DANTALA the Legend of Ndengdeng Music
Ndengdeng is a kind of music that derives its sound from the Ndengdeng musical instrument called ‘molo’ in Hausa and Raft Zither in English. “Ndengdeng” is a pentatonic musical instrument like most Plateau, Nigerian and African musical instruments e.g the xylophone, the harp, the pan-pipes, the Asharuwa flutes, the vellang, the sombi horns, etc.
Most of the tribes on the Plateau e.g the Ngas, Taroh, Mwaghavul, Berom, Goemai, Ron, Pyem, Irigwe, Rukuba etc use the Ndengdeng music for difference purposed e.g for selecting and entertaining their suitors (especially among the young men), to sing about achievements and common problems of the society e.g the needs and values of the community to achieve a common cause. It is also used to create awareness, act and react to situations for development.
The Ndengdeng musical instrument is pentatonic and it is the standard for African Music which has a sweet and melodious rhythm that brings unity among tribes, communities, nations etc, Ndengdeng music is a new genre of music which Ndengdeng music is a new genre of music which is made popular by Dantala and Group. The music is original, unique and universally accepted. The Ndengdeng music is accompanied by many other instruments, both traditional and modern for a harmonic and melodious rhythmic fusion.
