Spain’s teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal, has become the first player under the age of 20 to win both the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup.
The 19-year-old Barcelona forward achieved the historic feat after Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute to secure Spain’s second World Cup title.
Yamal’s latest success comes just two years after helping Spain lift the UEFA Euro 2024 trophy. At the age of 17, he became the youngest player to feature in and win the European Championship, earning the tournament’s Young Player of the Tournament award following a series of outstanding performances.
The latest achievement further cements Yamal’s status as one of world football’s brightest young talents, having already collected two of the sport’s most prestigious international honours before the age of 20.
