A Lagos State Government director, Mrs. Serifat Olubukola Talabi, has tragically passed away just four days before her scheduled retirement from the civil service — and on the very day she was marking her 60th birthday.
Talabi, who served as the Director of Procurement at the Lagos State Resident Registration Agency, was reportedly knocked down by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday while crossing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.
A source within the state civil service, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that she was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead.
“She was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver while trying to cross the expressway around the Redemption Camp. Efforts were made to take her to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead,” the source said.
Another source disclosed that Talabi’s official retirement ceremony was initially scheduled for Monday, October 13, but was postponed to Wednesday, October 22, to accommodate the agency’s General Manager.
“She was supposed to retire on October 13, but because the General Manager was not around, she shifted the date to October 22 so he could attend. Invitations had already been printed and sent to colleagues, friends, and family before the unfortunate incident,” the source added.
An invitation card sighted online indicated that the ceremony was to hold at the NERDC Conference Centre, NERDC Road, Ikeja, adjacent to the Fela Shrine.
Meanwhile, a wake for the late director will be held on October 23, 2025, followed by a burial service on October 24 in Ibafo, Ogun State.
