A 9-year-old Nigerian girl, who was allegedly molested by a carpenter named Baba Michael, who lives at Anishere, Ayobo, has been rescued by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD) in collaboration with the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).
The rescue effort was prompted by a viral video posted by Comedienne Princess on January 31, which exposed the incident and criticized those who were trying to cover it up. Princess revealed that the victim’s mother had passed away, making her even more vulnerable.
A statement from the Lagos state Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende. Today February 1, states that the survivor has been placed in protective custody, and is receiving necessary medical care and psychological support through counselling.
Ogunlende added that the alleged perpetrator has been apprehended and is currently in custody, with DSVA handling the legal proceedings to ensure justice is served.
