Kwara Students Excel Internationally as Nigeria Claims Silver at Zimbabwe Spelling Bee

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commended two students from Kwara State for their outstanding performance at an international spelling bee competition held in Harare, where they represented Nigeria and secured a silver medal.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the governor congratulated Yusuf Abdurrahman Oreoluwa and Yusuf Maryam of Ar-Raheem International College, Ilorin, describing their performance as exceptional on the global stage.

He noted that the duo, alongside another Nigerian participant from Ekiti State, contributed to the country’s silver medal finish at the competition, which drew contestants from multiple countries.

AbdulRazaq added that the students’ achievement has earned them qualification to represent Nigeria at a forthcoming global competition in China in the coming months.

Describing the feat as worthy of celebration, the governor praised the students for enhancing the state’s growing reputation for academic excellence and for being worthy ambassadors of Kwara.

He also congratulated their school and parents, urging them to sustain the momentum.

The governor linked the success to ongoing investments in the education sector, stressing that quality education remains key to societal development and is strengthened through collaboration between government and stakeholders.

The spelling bee competition is an academic contest designed to test students’ proficiency in English vocabulary, pronunciation, and spelling through multiple rounds of competition.
