Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has sparked controversy after bringing his wife Tiwi’s underwear to the premiere of Daniel Etim-Effiong’s new movie, The Herd, held at IMAX Lekki in Lagos.
The event, which drew several top Nollywood stars, took an unexpected turn when Kunle revealed the intimate item on the red carpet. Explaining his action, the actor said it was a symbolic gesture to represent his wife, who could not attend the premiere.
He wrote:
“Your wife could not be present physically, so she gave you a piece of herself. Randomly remembering how I started my morning.”
Clips shared online showed Kunle displaying the underwear during his red-carpet appearance and incorporating it into several parts of his day’s vlog.
The gesture, however, was met with widespread criticism from fans and social media users, who described it as inappropriate and attention-seeking.
One user, Tunde Adeyemi, commented:
“I can’t believe this actually happened. It makes you question what he thinks is acceptable in public.”
Another, Chinwe Okoro, wrote:
“Bringing his wife’s underwear to a red carpet event is really uncomfortable to watch. Some boundaries shouldn’t be crossed.”
Others, including Aisha Bello, Funke Olatunji, and Emeka Nnaji, echoed similar sentiments, saying the act was embarrassing and disrespectful, while Segun Alabi and Nkechi Umeh noted that there are better ways to express love and connection publicly.
As of press time, Kunle Remi has yet to respond to the backlash his gesture has generated online.
