A councillor representing Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Rosemary Aduku, has died after spending several days in the hands of suspected kidnappers.
Aduku’s death was announced on Friday, October 9, 2026, by the Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, in a statement issued on behalf of the local government’s Executive Council.
According to reports, the councillor was abducted on September 30 while travelling to Onitsha, Anambra State, to purchase goods for her business. The commercial vehicle she was travelling in was reportedly ambushed around Oji River, near the boundary between Enugu and Anambra states.
The assailants allegedly dragged Aduku out of the vehicle and took her to an undisclosed location, leaving the other passengers unharmed. She was popularly known as Hon. Rosella among her colleagues.
A family source said relatives became increasingly worried after the abductors failed to contact them to demand a ransom for several days. Her death was reportedly confirmed on Thursday, October 8, while she was still in captivity.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear. The family has also raised concerns over the incident, while reports indicate that the driver and another individual who allegedly answered a call to the councillor’s phone were arrested and were assisting security operatives with investigations.
Williams described the late councillor as a humble, dependable and compassionate individual who was committed to the well-being of those around her. He extended condolences to her family, colleagues and the Ogugu community.
Aduku was buried on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre, according to reports.
