The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has ordered an investigation into the runway excursion involving an Enugu Air aircraft at Benin Airport in Edo State.
In a post shared on his social media platforms on Friday, the minister said he had directed all relevant aviation agencies to work closely with Enugu Air to determine the cause of the incident.
The aircraft was involved in a runway excursion on Thursday after landing at the Benin City Airport. The development prompted Air Peace to temporarily suspend all flights to and from the airport following the temporary closure of the runway.
Providing an update on the incident, Keyamo clarified that the aircraft landed safely before skidding off the runway, noting that the occurrence is technically referred to in aviation as a **runway excursion**, and not a crash landing.
He assured the public that all passengers and crew members on board the aircraft were safe, adding that aviation authorities had commenced efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining aviation safety and ensuring that the findings of the investigation help strengthen operational standards across the sector.
