The Katsina State Government has finalised arrangements for a large-scale mass wedding programme involving at least 1,000 couples across the state as part of efforts to address social and economic challenges.
The Director-General of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, Malam Abu-Ammar, disclosed this during a livelihood support and counselling training session, explaining that the initiative targets vulnerable individuals unable to marry due to financial hardship.
According to him, the couples—comprising 2,000 individuals—were selected from all 34 local government areas of Katsina State. He said the programme is intended to reduce social vices by supporting widows, orphans, and low-income residents seeking marriage but constrained by economic difficulties.
He added that the state government will provide support packages and empowerment initiatives to help the beneficiaries establish stable households after the ceremony.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, A’isha Malumfashi, confirmed that all selected participants underwent medical screening and verification to ensure their health status and suitability.
She said the mass wedding is scheduled for April 25, 2026, and is being organised in collaboration with a marital support foundation, the Hisbah Board, and the Ministry of Women Affairs.
Officials described the initiative as part of broader social welfare interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and strengthening family structures within the state.
