Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to establish a state-owned commercial airline aimed at creating employment opportunities for indigenous pilots who have completed their professional aviation training.
The governor made the disclosure during the 40th Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House in Kano, where he also received several awards, including one from the Kano State Pilot Association in recognition of his administration’s support for the training and development of local pilots.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.
According to Yusuf, the proposed **Kano Airline** is expected to commence operations within the next year. He assured that his administration would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful establishment and operation of the airline.
The governor also expressed satisfaction with the performance of Kano-sponsored pilots who underwent aviation training in Jordan under a programme initiated by a previous state administration. He described the young pilots’ performance as outstanding and reaffirmed his commitment to creating opportunities for them to contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Kano State Pilot Association, Naziru Ibrahim, commended the governor for facilitating the revalidation of members’ flying licences, describing the intervention as a significant boost to their professional careers.
Ibrahim also appealed for additional government support to enable association members obtain their final certifications, which would qualify them to operate commercial flights both within Nigeria and internationally.
