Kaduna Pastor, Wife and Daughter Regain Freedom After Five Months in Captivity as Son Dies

A Kaduna-based cleric, Reverend Andrew Duniya, his wife, Jemimah Andrew, and their daughter have regained their freedom after spending five months in captivity following their abduction by suspected bandits.

The family members were abducted on Sunday, April 26, 2026, when armed men invaded Gidan Ali community in Ikulu Chiefdom, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦270 million for the family’s release.

However, their return has been overshadowed by tragedy, as the couple’s son reportedly died while in captivity.

A journalist confirmed the family’s release on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, after visiting them at their residence.

The circumstances surrounding their release, including whether any ransom was paid, have not been disclosed.

The incident highlights the devastating impact of kidnapping on families in Kaduna State, where communities continue to face security challenges and residents have repeatedly called on authorities to strengthen efforts to protect lives and property.
