The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
His confirmation followed a screening session by lawmakers during the Committee of the Whole in the Senate Chamber.
During the exercise, lawmakers posed several questions to the nominee, which he responded to before being asked to take a bow and leave.
Following his exit, the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, moved a motion for the restoration of all floor privileges earlier suspended. The motion was seconded by the Minority Leader and approved through a voice vote.
Subsequently, Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the nomination to a voice vote, after which the lawmakers unanimously confirmed Amupitan’s appointment.
“The nomination of Joash Ojo Amupitan for appointment as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission is hereby confirmed,” Akpabio declared.
