Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has responded to a series of Instagram posts by Wizkid, following the pop star’s attack on him over comparisons with the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Wizkid had taken to his Instagram stories to claim he is bigger than Fela, directing personal insults at Seun in the process. His comments sparked widespread reactions on social media and reignited debates about legacy, influence, and commercial success in Nigerian music.

Responding to the outburst, Seun Kuti addressed the controversy while standing firm on his views about respecting his father’s legacy.

“Una oga don come out. Ehn hen. Tmr we finish. Day 7. Shebi una say e no go answer?
Dem don fall una hand o. Just be yourself short man. You are also great,” Seun wrote.

The disagreement began after Seun rejected comparisons that describe Wizkid as “bigger” or “more influential” than Fela Kuti. He argued that such narratives diminish Fela’s legacy, stressing that his father’s impact as a political and cultural activist transcends music charts and commercial achievements.

Seun also criticised Wizkid’s fans for repeatedly invoking Fela’s name in online arguments, describing the trend as disrespectful and historically misleading.

According to Seun, equating modern-day commercial success with Fela Kuti’s enduring cultural and political influence reflects a poor understanding of history and the broader role Fela played beyond music.
