The group, operating under the banner of the Coalition of Concerned Youths of Jos South, made the call on Thursday, February 6, 2026, during a public engagement in Jos South, describing the move as a grassroots-driven demand for competent and selfless leadership.

According to the coalition, the call for Engr. Chayi to enter the chairmanship race goes beyond political considerations and is anchored on his long-standing contributions to community development and youth empowerment.

In a statement issued after the gathering, the youths highlighted several reasons for their endorsement, including what they described as his proven capacity as a job creator and his role in addressing unemployment through private-sector initiatives without reliance on government positions.

They also commended his decision to locate his business interests within Jos South, noting that this has contributed to local economic growth and enhanced the commercial profile of the local government area.

The coalition further cited Engr. Chayi’s involvement in youth development through scholarship schemes, skills acquisition programmes and business support initiatives, which they said have positively impacted many young people in the area.

According to the group, his community interventions, including support for social welfare and grassroots infrastructure, have reached underserved areas of Jos South, while his reputation for integrity and fairness has earned him respect across ethnic and social lines.

The youths also noted that Engr. Chayi’s leadership philosophy aligns with the development agenda of Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, whom they said has consistently emphasized value-driven and inclusive governance.

A spokesperson for the coalition said the call reflects the collective will of residents, adding that similar appeals have previously been made to Engr. Chayi by elders, women’s groups and professional bodies within the local government area.

“The message from the people of Jos South is clear. We want leadership defined by impact and competence. We believe Engr. Dachomo Chayi has the experience and commitment required to move Jos South forward,” the spokesperson said.

The coalition urged Engr. Chayi to heed the call and formally declare his intention to contest, insisting that his candidacy would represent hope for effective grassroots governance and sustainable development in Jos South.
