Jos South LGA flags-off GPE COVID-19 Response back to school campaign & safe school return

The Plateau State ministry of education (MOE), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with UNICEF Bauchi Field Office organized LGA Flag-off of Global Partnership for Education(GPE). COVID-19 Response back to school campaign and safe school return.

The Flag-off which took place at the LGEA Headquarters in Jos South Local Government Area in Plateau State, on Friday 14th January 2022 had various dignitaries including traditional rulers, Religious Leaders, supervisory councilors representatives of the health and education ministries as well as some participating schools and students within Jos South.

While flagging-of the campaign, the Chairman of South Local Government Area, Hon Gideon Dung Davou Dandereng who was represented by the council Secretary, Hon Alex Dalyop commended the efforts of the collaborating partners for the campaign.

He noted that the devastating effect of COVID-19 is evident especially how it has affected the general economy and lives of persons globally with education also suffering in the process with over 10million children now out of school.

“Education for Children is not something anybody should take for granted because if you educate a child the you have created wealth for a generation as we are all products of education”

“The effects of Covid-19 on our educational system will definitely take time to recover, however we must begin to do our best to recover. With education that has brought in science and technology that has helped in the management of Covid-19 with the development and administration of vaccines worldwide and even here in Nigeria”. He said

Hon Gideon said that with the measures put in place by the world health organization students can now go back to school however everybody must come together to support that children go back to school because an uneducated generation is an unsecured generation.

He stated that the insecurity faced today in Nigeria is as a result of lack of proper education which has led to kidnapping, Banditry and the social vices but only education can liberate the society from this vices.

He further called on all to do the right thing by encouraging the back to school campaign and went on to flag-off the campaign in Jos South Local Government Area.

There were various presentations from students on Covid-19 awareness and back to school campaign at the flag-off ceremony.
