Associates of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan have cautioned against individuals making statements on his behalf regarding the 2027 general elections, insisting that only Jonathan can authoritatively speak on his political future.

The clarification followed media reports attributed to former aide Jude Imagwe, who reportedly dismissed the possibility of Jonathan returning to electoral politics, raising questions about whether the remarks reflected the former president’s position or merely a personal opinion.

Reacting to the reports, Sam Presto, speaking on behalf of The Goodies Movement, a pro-Jonathan group, emphasized that any position concerning Jonathan’s political ambitions should only be regarded as authentic if it is communicated directly by the former president or through officially recognised channels.

The group stressed that individuals claiming to speak for prominent political figures should have clear authorisation to do so, urging media organisations to verify such claims before publication.

According to the associates, comments supporting, opposing, or speculating about Jonathan’s potential involvement in the 2027 elections should be treated as personal views unless they are backed by an explicit mandate from the former president.

They added that Nigerians deserve accurate information and clear communication regarding Jonathan’s political intentions, rather than assumptions or speculation.
