The Jigawa State House of Assembly has commenced consideration of a proposed ₦46.3 billion supplementary budget for the 2026 fiscal year.
The bill was presented for first reading during Wednesday’s plenary after Governor Umar Namadi forwarded a request to the Assembly seeking approval for the additional funds.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, said the proposed supplementary appropriation was aimed at ensuring that available resources were directed towards programmes and projects capable of improving the socio-economic well-being of residents.
He also said the budget review was in line with the administration’s commitment to prudent, transparent and accountable management of public funds.
The Majority Leader, Lawan Muhammad Dansure, moved the motion for the bill to be read for the first time, while Yahaya Muhammad Andaza, representing Kiyawa Constituency, seconded the motion.
The bill was subsequently read for the first time before the House adjourned its sitting to Thursday, September 24.
The proposed supplementary appropriation follows the approval by the Jigawa State Executive Council for a review of the 2026 Appropriation Law.
If passed by the Assembly and subsequently signed into law, the additional ₦46.369 billion would increase Jigawa’s 2026 budget from ₦901.8 billion to approximately ₦948.2 billion.
