The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a new arrangement that will allow candidates to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other O’Level results once for use during the admission process.
Under the new arrangement, candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions through JAMB will pay ₦4,000 for the verification of their WAEC results.
Once successfully verified, the result will be made available to the candidate’s preferred institution for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes.
The initiative is aimed at reducing the financial burden on admission seekers who are often required to pay separate verification fees to different institutions and make repeated trips to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
In a joint statement, JAMB and WAEC said candidates would initiate the verification process through a platform provided by JAMB, either from their homes or any internet-enabled location.
“All candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once, through JAMB,” the statement said.
The examination bodies explained that WAEC had authorised JAMB to share successful verification outcomes with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.
They also directed tertiary institutions not to impose additional verification charges on candidates after the result had been verified through the new system.
“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” the statement stressed, adding that institutions were expected to utilise the verified results supplied by JAMB.
The new arrangement followed a series of meetings and consultations between JAMB and WAEC aimed at streamlining the verification of O’Level results and eliminating unnecessary duplication in the process.
The bodies said the one-time verification would allow candidates to use their verified results for multiple admission purposes without having to repeat the process whenever another institution requires verification.
Candidates seeking admission were therefore advised to take advantage of the new arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service.
