The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed demands for refunds from candidates who incurred charges while attempting to check their 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results before their official release.
The controversy followed a delay in the release of results for candidates who sat for the examination on Friday, April 17. JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin had earlier indicated on X that updates would be provided once the results were ready.
He later issued an apology after the board failed to meet its initial timeline, explaining that the delay was due to the absence of the Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, who was attending an official engagement.
Benjamin assured candidates that the results would be released soon, acknowledging the frustration of those who waited late into the night. However, some candidates reported making multiple attempts to check their results during the delay, incurring charges in the process.
Responding to the complaints, the JAMB spokesperson maintained that the board had not officially announced the release of the results at the time, questioning the basis for refund requests.
He reiterated that result processing is a sensitive task that requires the direct oversight of the Registrar, adding that Oloyede has since returned to Abuja and that the delayed results would be released shortly.
JAMB again assured candidates that the results for the affected examination would be made public within hours.
