Iran’s Pezeshkian Rejects US Talks, Says Washington Is Not Seeking Dialogue

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed negotiations with the United States as “meaningless,” accusing Washington of using talks as a prelude to renewed attacks against Iran.

Pezeshkian made the remarks on Monday during a meeting in Tehran with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, according to Iranian state media.

The Iranian president said his country had been attacked three times following previous negotiations, arguing that the pattern showed that the United States was not genuinely interested in dialogue.

He accused Washington of pursuing what he described as a policy of assassination, sanctions, pressure and threats against Iran, while also alleging that the US had repeatedly broken its commitments.

Pezeshkian said Iran could not accept negotiations under such circumstances, adding that Tehran believed the ultimate objective of the United States was to overthrow the Islamic Republic.

His comments come amid a prolonged standoff between Tehran and Washington, with diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remaining stalled. Iran has continued to communicate with the US through intermediaries, while officials in Tehran have been reviewing Washington’s response to its latest proposal aimed at resolving the crisis.

The latest remarks also contrast with statements from US President Donald Trump, who has said he remains open to direct negotiations with Iran. The conflicting positions underscore the difficulties facing efforts to reach a diplomatic settlement as tensions continue to rise in the region.
