Iran’s military command says it has halted its operation against Israel following a brief escalation that saw both sides exchange fire for the first time since a truce took effect in April.

The announcement was made on Monday, June 8, after renewed hostilities over the weekend involving missile strikes from both countries. The latest confrontation reportedly comes amid rising regional tensions linked to developments in Lebanon and broader security concerns in the Middle East.

In a statement carried by state television, the Khatam al-Anbiya military command said Iran had delivered a “painful response” to Israel before deciding to halt further operations.

“Accordingly, the cessation of armed forces operations is hereby announced,” the statement said.

However, it warned that any continued “acts of aggression and hostility,” including in southern Lebanon, would trigger “much more severe and crushing measures than before.”

The development comes as concerns grow over the stability of the fragile ceasefire reached earlier in the year, which had largely held despite mutual accusations of violations by both sides.

Tensions between Iran and Israel have intensified in recent months following direct missile and drone exchanges, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

Regional actors aligned with Iran in Lebanon and Yemen have also contributed to the broader escalation, further complicating diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.
