Chinese influencer Chen Ziyi, popularly known as Ganfan Yingying, has died at the age of 24 following health complications reportedly linked to her extreme eating content.
Chen, who had about 1.2 million followers, was known for creating mukbang videos in which she consumed large quantities of food for online audiences.
Three days before her death on August 17, 2026, the influencer shared a video from a hospital bed in which she warned her followers about the health risks associated with her work.
She revealed that she had dangerously low potassium levels and said she had previously been hospitalised over health problems.
“Money is important, but health comes first forever,” she reportedly told her followers while urging them to take care of their health.
Although her official cause of death has not been confirmed, a person close to the case reportedly said she suffered a heart attack.
Doctors have since warned about the potential dangers of extreme eating challenges. Dr Chai Qichen of Zhejiang Hospital said mukbang creators can face serious health problems, particularly when they engage in excessive eating and purging after filming.
Chen’s parents announced her death in an emotional online post on September 4, mourning the loss of their daughter at such a young age.
Her death has renewed concerns about the health risks faced by influencers who participate in extreme eating challenges for online views and engagement.
