An Abuja High Court has threatened to issue a bench warrant on the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral
Commissioner for Imo State, Mr. Francis Ezeonu over contempt of court.

Justice O. A. Musa of the Bwari division of the Court had earlier, in
his judgement reaffirmed Daniel Nwafor as the authentic chairman of the
state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but the REC did
not obey the order.

The judge who was visibly angry that the order of the court was not
obeyed directed the Imo State commissioner of Police to effect the order
by producing the Resident Electoral Commissioner to appear before it on
or before 30th April.

He said Ezeonu’s appearance would be to explain why he should not obey a subsisting court order from a competent court.

Ezeonu was alleged to have discountenance the comprehensive list of
candidates and party agents submitted to him for the purpose of the 2019
general elections.

“We will take another date for the security agencies to bring him to
court, the court has ordered that he should be present in court and the
order should be obeyed,” Ezeonu told journalists after Court session on
Thursday.
