Imo Police Arrest 22-Year-Old Suspect Over Killing of Married Father of Four

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Bright Adiene, in connection with the suspected cult-related killing of Nnamdi Okeke, a printer and father of four, in Owerri, the state capital.

Okeke, popularly known as Kilo, was reportedly murdered on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The police confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday, October 18, through the command’s spokesperson, DSP Okoye Henry.

According to the police, Adiene is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend another suspect, identified as Anyima, who is also allegedly connected to the incident. The command said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify everyone involved.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Audu Garba Bosso, convened a security meeting with area commanders, divisional police officers and tactical team commanders on Sunday to review the security situation and strengthen crime-prevention measures across the state.

The commissioner directed operational commanders to intensify intelligence-led operations, conduct targeted raids on identified criminal hideouts, increase patrols in security-prone areas and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

He also called for closer collaboration between security agencies, community leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders to improve intelligence gathering and prevent further violence.

The police commissioner urged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s activities and associations, discourage involvement in cultism and report relevant information to security agencies. He warned that anyone found culpable in cult-related violence would face the full consequences of the law.

The command appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding while providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations. Members of the public with useful information were encouraged to visit the nearest police station or call 0803 477 3600.
