IMN Members Protest in Lagos Over Killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader
Leaders and members of the South West chapter of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) staged a peaceful protest in Lagos on Monday to condemn the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
The demonstrators converged along the Maryland axis in the early hours, waving placards and chanting slogans denouncing what they described as foreign aggression against a sovereign nation.
Participants called for global condemnation of what they viewed as “interventionist” military actions and urged respect for national independence. Some commuters and residents in the area expressed fear due to the size of the gathering, although there were no reports of violence and the protest remained largely peaceful.
IMN’s South West coordinator, Muftau Zakariya, told journalists that the demonstration aimed to express concern over sustained foreign intervention in the affairs of sovereign countries, citing recent crises involving the United States in nations such as Venezuela.
The protest in Lagos is part of a series of demonstrations by IMN members across Nigeria following reports of the joint U.S.–Israeli strikes in Iran that reportedly resulted in Khamenei’s death, a development that has heightened geopolitical tensions globally.
