Mr. Odinia Emmanuel Godson, father of former Big Brother Naija winner Ilebaye Odiniya, has publicly addressed the incident that reportedly led to the physical assault of his daughter.

In a confession video shared online by a journalist and now circulating widely on social media, Mr. Godson gave his account of the events surrounding the controversy.

He acknowledged the reactions generated by the incident, including criticism and support from Nigerians both within and outside the country, while expressing appreciation to those who responded.

According to him, his actions were not motivated by hatred or lack of love for his daughter, whom he described as one of his best children.

Mr. Godson pointed to the quality of education and support he provided for Ilebaye over the years as proof of his commitment to her wellbeing.

He recalled supporting her ambition to participate in Big Brother Naija and said he mobilised friends, associates, and contacts both in Nigeria and abroad to vote for her during her second appearance on the reality show in 2023.

The father claimed his personal efforts contributed significantly to the support that helped her emerge winner of the competition.

However, he expressed disappointment over what he described as unmet expectations following her victory and stated that she had become less receptive to parental advice and guidance.

According to him, his actions were influenced by cultural beliefs that parents should discipline their children before situations worsen.

The development comes after reports emerged that Ilebaye appeared in an emotional Instagram Live session in the early hours of Friday, alleging domestic violence and physical assault.

During the livestream, the reality TV star appeared distressed with a visibly swollen face while calling for help. A man believed to be her father was allegedly seen in the background during the incident.
