The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recommended the immediate prosecution of Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew after concluding its investigation into the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The commission presented its interim findings to President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.
According to the ICPC, the investigation found no evidence linking the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to the alleged fraud, effectively clearing him of any wrongdoing.
Before the submission of the report, Gbajabiamila voluntarily honoured an invitation from the commission, where he provided a statement and cooperated fully with investigators.
The ICPC also disclosed that a forensic examination conducted by law enforcement agencies confirmed that Gbajabiamila’s signature on the appointment letters allegedly circulated by Adeyemi had been forged.
Speaking to State House correspondents after briefing the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, ICPC Chairman Musa Adamu (SAN) said investigations established that Adeyemi was never appointed by the Federal Government.
He further stated that the so-called Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC)—also referred to in some documents as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council—was never established by any law, executive order or any other valid government instrument.
Adamu said the commission’s findings formed the basis for its recommendation that Adeyemi be prosecuted, while investigations into other aspects of the case continue.
