The Chairman of JIBWIS, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, has denied allegations that he dislikes Christians, saying his earlier comments were misinterpreted.
Speaking at a national symposium in Jos, the cleric said Islam promotes love, justice and peaceful coexistence with people of different faiths.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, governors and other political leaders to govern fairly and avoid discriminating against citizens based on their religion or political affiliation.
Jingir specifically appealed to Tinubu to ensure that both Muslims and non-Muslims are treated fairly, stressing that leaders have a responsibility to protect the rights of every Nigerian.
He also said Nigerians have the right to support and vote for whichever political candidate they believe is best for them.
The cleric concluded by calling for greater national unity, warning that Nigeria cannot achieve sustainable development while insecurity and division persist.
