Human Rights Violation: Court of Appeal Awards N15m against former GOC 3rd Armour Division Gen. Nuhu, Gen Adewa and others

The Court of Appeal Jos Division has awarded the Sum of N15, 000,000 . 00 (Fifteen Million Naira) against the former General Officer Commanding 3rd Armour Division Gen. NUHU AGBAZO, GEN. I. O ADEWA and other officers for assault and violation of the Fundamental Human Rights of one Zakari Hamani.

The Suit which was filed by the Said Zakari Hamani through his Councel GYANG ZI esq before the Plateau State High Court in Suit No. PLD/J/191m2/2019 was assigned to Hon. Justice I. I. KUNDA who dismissed the Suit in a Judgement delivered on the 12th August, 2020.

Dissatisfied with the Judgement of Hon. Justice I. I KUNDA, the Applicant approached the Court of Appeal through the same Counsel GYANG ZI esq and in a unanimous Judgement delivered by Hon. Justice I. A. ANDENYANGTSO (JCA) on the 30th December, 2022 the Justices of the Court of Appeal condemned the attitude of the officers, Set Aside the Judgement of Hon. Justice l.. I KUNDA and awarded the Sum of N15,000,000. 00 against the officers in favour of the Appellant.

Gen. Adewa gave Zakari a contract to supply him a car and two years after the supply, GEN. ADEWA brought back the car on the ground that the Car has problem after which he instructed Military officers to arrest, assault and detained Zakari Hamani in the Custody of 3rd Armour Division; Zakari was not only detained in Custody but in a Toilet under the watch of the GOC for 3 days before he was handed to the Police.

Zakari was forcefully taken out of his car during the arrest and the car was abandoned on the road. The car was also vandalised.
