The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State, Hon. Rufus Bature, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to good governance, unity and inclusive leadership following his re-election at the recently concluded state congress.
Bature made the remarks during an interview at the APC State Secretariat, Kalwa House in Jos, where he outlined the party’s plans to strengthen its structures and support the delivery of democratic dividends to citizens across the state.
According to him, the party leadership will work closely with public office holders to ensure that governance reflects the needs and expectations of the people, particularly those at the grassroots.
“We intend that we will work assiduously to make sure that we reach the expectations of the people,” Bature said. “At the party, we will advise those who are in government offices to protect the interests of the people and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the poorest of the poor within our communities.”
He explained that the party would continue to advocate for good governance while collaborating with the government to strengthen security and improve the welfare of residents across the state.
The APC chairman also disclosed plans to strengthen internal party administration through capacity-building initiatives for party officials at various levels.
According to him, the party intends to organize training workshops for officials from the ward to the state level to help them better understand their responsibilities.
“We intend to organize workshops for party officials where professionals will educate them on their roles and what is expected of them,” he said.
Bature further revealed that the party has begun implementing a digital membership registration system aimed at modernizing its operations and ensuring accurate data management.
“We want to fully digitalize our operations. The first phase of the registration of party members has already started so that our members are electronically registered and their information can be accessed easily,” he stated.
On internal party unity, Bature acknowledged that disagreements may arise during consensus arrangements but assured members that the party has mechanisms in place to address grievances and maintain cohesion.
“In many ways we don’t have 100 percent acceptance. There will always be people who are disgruntled, especially in a consensus arrangement. But we have internal mechanisms within the party to placate people, and that process is ongoing,” he said.
He added that the leadership would continue to engage stakeholders to ensure that every member feels included in party activities.
The APC chairman also assured aspirants seeking elective positions that the party would provide a fair and transparent process for candidate emergence in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
“Candidates can emerge through consensus or direct primaries, and we will create a level playing ground for everyone from councillorship to the presidency,” he said.
Bature further noted that the party plans to expand its membership base across Plateau State ahead of future elections.
While addressing concerns about party funding in the past, he acknowledged that financial challenges had affected operations but expressed optimism that the situation would improve as the party strengthens its structures.
He also revealed that the party leadership intends to monitor government projects across local government areas to ensure contractors deliver quality work that meets the expectations of the people.
Bature assured members that the APC would remain united and focused on delivering effective leadership for the benefit of the people of Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
