Gunmen have killed a police officer and another man in separate incidents in Plateau State, raising fresh concerns over security in parts of the state.
The police officer was reportedly attacked at about 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, while riding a motorcycle to his duty post along the Kwi-Beco road, between Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas.
According to reports, the officer was heading to the Chit area of Heipang District when he was ambushed by armed assailants, who allegedly killed him and made away with his motorcycle.
The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident and condemned the killing, describing it as disturbing. He expressed concern over the safety of both residents and security personnel operating in the affected communities.
In a separate incident, troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace, recovered the body of a man identified as Clinsha Haruna along a roadside in Gero community, Jos South Local Government Area, in the early hours of Thursday.
Haruna was reportedly found with machete wounds, while his motorcycle was said to have been stolen. His body was later evacuated by his relatives, as investigations continued to establish the circumstances surrounding his death and identify those responsible.
The incidents occurred amid heightened security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where authorities have recently imposed curfews in some communities to contain tensions and prevent further violence.
