Gunmen have abducted six worshippers at the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday during a church service.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the abduction took place at about 12:50 a.m. on February 25, with the victims taken to an unknown destination.

According to him, security operatives swiftly launched a response after receiving the report.

“Upon receiving the report, operatives of the Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations,” the statement read.

He added that sustained joint efforts had already yielded results, with one of the kidnapped worshippers successfully rescued.

The incident comes just days after gunmen abducted a couple in Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Government Area, while the state is still reeling from the recent killing of traditional ruler, Oba Kehinde Falodun, who was shot dead after attackers invaded his palace.

Security agencies say operations are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims.
