Gunmen have attacked a commercial bus at Dungus Junction in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving several passengers dead.
The incident occurred on Sunday night as the vehicle was travelling towards Jos.
According to reports, the bus stopped by the roadside to drop off some passengers when the attackers opened fire on those who had alighted and others still inside the vehicle. The driver was also killed in the attack.
A survivor identified as Nasiru Garba, who worked as the conductor of the bus, said he escaped by hiding inside the vehicle when the gunmen began shooting.
Garba said the attackers opened fire after the driver returned to the vehicle, killing passengers who had already alighted as well as those who remained inside.
Reports put the number of people killed in the bus attack at nine, including eight passengers and the driver, although initial accounts gave different casualty figures.
The attack was one of several incidents reported in Plateau State on the same night, with other casualties recorded in parts of Mangu and Riyom Local Government Areas.
The fresh attacks have renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of the state, as authorities continue efforts to protect communities and prevent further violence.
